Article: RSS SAMANVAY BAITHAK AND ITS IMPORTANCE: KNOW HOW RSS MANAGES COORDINATION ACROSS INSPIRED ORGANISATIONS?

1. FESTIVALS : DURGA PUJA: Durga Puja or Navratri is a vibrant nine-day celebration to honour the divine feminine energy of Maa Durga. Devotees in Bharat and abroad worship different forms of Maa Durga on these 9 days, perform various rituals, and pray for the well-being of all humans. This year, Durga Puja starts on September 28 and concludes with Vijayadashami on October 2.

On the first day, devotees fill a Kalash with water, mango leaves, and coconut, place it on a bed of barley seeds, and worship the first form of Durga – Shailaputri. In the Kanya Pujan ceremony, devotees also worship nine young girls as the nine forms of Durga Mata. As part of Ayudh Puja, many people clean the tools of their trades, books, instruments, and vehicles and worship them. It signifies respect for knowledge, skills, and livelihood. The festival commemorates the victory of Maa Durga over Mahishasura. It evokes ethical living and moral strength. It reminds us of the fact that despite the prevalence of injustice, truth and goodness will ultimately prevail. -GoTop

2. PROGRAMS OF SARSANGHCHALAK DR MOHAN BHAGWAT: While attending the 7th Foundation Day of Bramhakumaris Vishwa Shanti Sarovar in Nagpur on September 12, RSS Sarsanghchalak Dr. Mohan Bhagwat spoke about Bharat’s role in the world and the need for collective thinking. He urged for compassion and understanding of one’s true self, suggesting that overcoming fear would lead to a world without enemies.

Dr. Bhagwat also said that today, the world is looking for solutions as it has been unable to find a way forward due to its incomplete vision and ‘only me’ approach. When we understand that ‘Me and Mine’ is actually ‘We and Ours’, all issues end. Dr Bhagwat highlighted Bharat’s potential to address global challenges and guide the world towards a better future.
He also praised the spirit of the Bharatiya people, noting their resilience and contentment even in difficult times.

RSS SAMANVAY BAITHAK AND ITS IMPORTANCE: KNOW HOW RSS MANAGES COORDINATION ACROSS INSPIRED ORGANISATIONS?
Many people ask how RSS coordinates with its different organisation? The fact is that RSS doesn’t just build IQ, it builds EQ and SQ – emotional quotient and social quotient. Thus, none of its inspired organisations split —- RATAN SHARDA

The Akhil Bharatiya Samanvay Baithak of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is being organised in Jodhpur, Rajasthan from September 5 to September 7, 2025. The three days Akhil Bharatiya Samanvay Baithak is generally organised once in a year. During this meeting, activists of Sangh inspired organisations will share the information and exchange experiences about their respective work.

How RSS came into existence?
A small organisation that began in an open ground with around 14-15 teenage boys brought together by a former revolutionary and political leader has blossomed today into a giant banyan tree with so many branches and roots that it is difficult to distinguish between the main trunk and various branches that have struck roots on their own and many that have grown independently under its benign shadow.
It reminds me of the legendary giant banyan tree in Kolkata described thus in a Times of India report – “Estimated to be more than 250 years old, the Great Banyan is occupies an area of 4.67 acres! […] We all know how banyan trees extend their aerial roots, and they spread and cover a very large area. But is it possible without the main trunk? Looks like it is. The Great Banyan lost its original trunk to disease after being struck by two massive cyclones, and so in 1925, its original trunk had to be removed in order to stop the spread of the disease. That didn’t stop the tree from growing, and grew it did! A total of 3772 aerial roots to be precise!”
From Shakha to mass organisation
This is the closest one can get to understand the vast expanse of RSS through its various allied organisations working in almost every field of social and national life. There are 36 national level organisations inspired by RSS philosophy – beginning with Rashtra Sevika Samiti (RSS of women in 1932), Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP in 1948), followed by Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram (in 1951) to Bharatiya Janata Party (1951), Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (1955) and Vishva Hindu Parishad (1964) – all mass based giant organisations to the youngest Saksham (2008 – working with the divyang or differently abled people) working in a niche area; people inspired by RSS philosophy are working to the best of their abilities with full dedication. Those who have a little idea about these mass organisations know that many of them have more membership than even RSS. Scholars like Nalin Mehta tell us that BJP (with 18 crore members) has many times more members than RSS and RSS can no more influence BJP or dictate BJP the way it could earlier. Others in different social sphere are number one organisations in their respective fields. In 2008 VHP claimed to have 68 lakh members, ABVP has 45 lakh student members.
BMS has a membership of nearly 1 crore with 5000 unions under its flag. There are smaller specialised organisations that have changed the direction of Indian history, like Itihas Sankalan Samiti established by renowned archaeologist Haribhau Wakankar by discovering evidences that demolished the Aryan Invasion or Migration Theory. Then there is Sewa Bharati, an apex body coordinating work of social service with over 150 thousand social service projects.
Ekal Vidyalaya (single teacher, any time schools in remote areas) has crossed a figure of 1 lakh schools, replicated by many other organisations independently.
In such a scenario, how does the trunk that fed the original sap to these huge branches keep track of its expanse and keep nurturing them with the vital spirit of philosophy without which they may be cut off from the huge family some day even as they survive on their roots that they have struck.
Spirit of extended family
This is the question that many inquisitive people ask. It is a question that has baffled many social scientists. They have tried to find answers in their western organisational models. The answer, however, lies in the Bharatiya roots of this organisation. It is a unique organisation in terms of management and organisational structure though it looks like a typical pyramid like structure if one looks at it superficially. You can see the hierarchy from the local units of an RSS shakha at the base, you see a mandal (a local geographical group of a few shakhas, tehsil, district, state, region and finally an elected Pratinidhi Sabha and a national executive presided over by the Sarsanghchaalak. Similarly, you see such organisational structures in all its allied organisations. What is the difference between other organisations and RSS then? What helps it work harmoniously for nearly 100 years within and without, with its allied organisation?
Answer lies in a pithy observation made by the fourth Sarsanghchalak, Prof Rajendra Singh aka Rajju bhaiyya. He noted that RSS is a family organisation, not a cultural or social organisation etc. With family comes, affection, taking care of each other, mutual bonding, readiness to sacrifice for others in the family and readiness to listen to each other and respecting the elders’ views and ability of the senior members to take along other members of the extended family – Samyukta parivar.
Consensus building is not a much valued quality in today’s organisations. Fierce competition, influencing decisions with lobbying and pushing your ideas with majority vote, to win at any cost are the major attributes in other organisations – commercial, social and political. In our nation, where we enjoy multiplicity of views and respect every view, where we love to argue endlessly, ending up with misuse of this respect for multiplicity and creating more fault lines; RSS has perfected the art of consensus building. It is easier to achieve this consensus because the relations between its members are built selflessly and like a family. The warmth of relations doesn’t allow any argument or discussion to go beyond a point of no return. It delays the decisions, but it also helps take everyone along.
Now, extend this logic to the larger ‘parivar’ of RSS inspired or allied organisations. Since, all of them are generally started by an RSS swayamsevak or aligned organisations, he or she carry with them this skill of consensus building and also relationship building. As I note elsewhere in my writings, RSS doesn’t just build IQ, it builds EQ and SQ – Emotional quotient and social quotient. Thus, none of its allied organisations split. A few members may have walked out, some returning subsequently, but none tried to break their organisations.
As RSS ecosystem grew over years, a need was felt to have some kind of coordination, so different organisations knew what their sister organisations were doing in their own field. Therefore, periodic ‘samanvay baithaks’ or co-ordination meetings began taking place. It helped them appreciate each other’s work and also empathise with their area of work. This understanding of each other’s work and conditions in which they worked, helped avoid any clash that might develop when they come from fields that may be considered as antagonist to each other.
For example, a Laghu Udyog Bharati member may have some problem with a Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh trade union in his factory. Or a Swadeshi Jagaran Manch or Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh may not like some policies of BJP. And we see them criticising BJP or opposing a policy. But there are occasions when both sides meet in a ‘samanvay baithak’ and understand each other and try to work out some consensus or hold their ideas till a solution is found. Here, the role of the RSS is only that of a facilitator; it does not guide or push its views on others.
How does RSS control its urge to dictate terms to its allied organisations? It is the spirit of autonomy. It is a misunderstanding that RSS does micro-tunes its organisations. Its role is only to share its views on various issues and it is upto the other organisation whether to accept it or not. Yes, there is a strong moral pressure when the Sarsanghchaalak or Sarkaryavaah make a point. This is the reason that the top leadership thinks multiple times before it shares its views with the other organisations. Generally, the leadership responds when the other organisation reaches out for a solution or advice.
Autonomous, still connected
The spirit of autonomy is kept alive by treating organisations as equals. In early days, it was RSS that was the providing necessary human resources and even prachaaraks for a particular work. At that time too, it would urge the organisation to create its own cadre. Slowly, most of the organisations have been able to have their own workers/karyakartas and own working style depending on the field they are in. Thus, RSS may have been the provider of seed capital, but it does not hold equity beyond that. Understanding this, the RSS seniors try to give advice but not force it, respecting an organisations own compulsions and area of expertise.
I have been reading about Communist party these days for my new project. I find that this spirit of giving autonomy to the others in the organisation, creating consensus with serious efforts and nurturing the spirit of affection of a family is missing there. It is a structure that holds people in certain hierarchy for organisation purpose, nothing more. So, is it in most of the organisations.
We recall the construction of Vivekanand Rock Memorial, struggle against Emergency for restoration of democracy, Ram Mandir movement, campaign for ‘shat pratishat matadaan’ (100 per cent voting) conducted by the larger ‘Sangh Parivar’ in a coordinated manner in 2014 and its enormous impact on the society of all these activities. As time passes, the direction of RSS founder Dr KB Hedgewar that RSS should not be an organisation within the society, but an organisation of the society is coming to fruition. Even without formally attending RSS Shakha many are imbibing or following Sangh way of thinking and functioning – that is the biggest success. There are more Sanghis who have never been to Shakha than Shakha trained swayamsevaks, that is the success of coordination – the RSS Way.
The evolution of RSS from an organisation to a movement is the result of this coordination or samanvay managed by RSS since years.
Fortunately for RSS, and unfortunately for other organisations, no one has studied or researched RSS with this view point. Their gaze on RSS has always been to find fault. For RSS, samanvay or harmonious co-ordination within and with organisations allied with it is a serious business, and that is the secret of the harmonious existence of this large Hindu Undivided Family.  https://organiser.org/2025/09/05/104009/opinion/sangh-parivar-where-coordination-is-the-crux/

1. FESTIVALS : PITRI PAKSHA: Pitri Paksha (September 7-21), also spelt Pitru Paksha, is a 16-lunar day period in the Hindu calendar when Hindus pay homage to their ancestors (Pitri), especially through food offerings. The period is also known as Pitarpas, Pitri Pokkho, Sorah Shraddha, Kanagat, Jitiya, Mahalaya, Apara Paksha and Akhadpak. As per Hindu traditions, the south celestial sphere is consecrated to the ancestors (Pitri).

Hence, when the Sun transits from the north to the south celestial sphere, it is considered to be a day of the ancestors. Shraddha involves oblations to three preceding generations - by reciting their names - as well as to the lineage ancestor (gotra). A person thus gets to know the names of six generations (three preceding generation, his own and two succeeding generations - his sons and grandsons) in his life, reaffirming lineage ties. -GoTop

2. PROGRAMS OF SARSANGHCHALAK DR MOHAN BHAGWAT: The work of Sangh is not just to think or talk; it is to act, to do, and to persevere. One must work hard to develop faith, and after developing faith, one must continuously strive to instil it in others, said Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh Sarsanghchalak at the launch of the book ‘Tan Samarpit Mann Samarpit’.

The book based on the life of Late Shri Ramesh Prakash was launched on August 18 at NDMC Convention Centre, New Delhi. Such a task lies before our independent nation, and for this, we must show the same hard work, the same sacrifice, and the same dedication that our forefathers demonstrated to secure our independence.

12. UK COURT RULES HINDUISM & HINDUTVA ARE ONE: In a significant legal development that resonates globally, the UK High Court of Justice has dismissed a defamation lawsuit brought by Islamist activist Mohammed Hijab against The Spectator and its columnist Douglas Murray. The judgment not only rejected Hijab’s claims but delivered a landmark observation that Hinduism and Hindutva are inseparable. It rebuffs years of propaganda that attempted to weaponize the term Hindutva and cast suspicion on Hindu identity.

The case stemmed from a September 2022 article in The Spectator titled ‘Leicester and the downside with diversity’ written by Douglas Murray. In the piece, Murray criticized Islamist street activism and referred to Hijab as a street agitator. Hijab filed a defamation suit, claiming that Murray’s characterization damaged his reputation. The Court, however, noted his inflammatory comments mocking reincarnation and said that it was not an innocent remark but a calculated rhetorical device to provoke sectarian animosity and ridicule Hindu faith. -GoTop

JAI SHRI RAM
----
PANCH PARIVARTAN OF RSS:
WHY IS SOCIAL EQUANIMITY IMPORTANT?
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has made tremendous efforts to end caste distinction and untouchability in the nation, since its founding. Through its Panch Parivartan initiative, RSS seeks to explain the relationship of castes and communities with the entire society and build a united Bharat

- PANKAJ JAGANNATH JAISWAL

The RSS has never discriminated against anyone on the basis of caste since its founding. The belief in “Samta,” “Mamta,” and “Samrasata,” which is both materially and emotionally associated with a sense of belonging, has long been held by Sangh Swayamsevaks. By preaching the truth and implementing it on the ground, RSS has made tremendous efforts to end caste distinction and untouchability in our nation as a whole. In its centennial year, the RSS began
working on a five-point plan known as “Panch Parivartan” to rebuild the great nation. Social equanimity is one. The RSS has its own way of explaining the relationship of castes and communities with the entire society. The approach is that, like all parts of the body, every section is important and all of them are interdependent too. Like the relationship of a body part with the entire body, every section of society relates with the society at large. This relationship is simultaneously related mutually as well as with the entire body. Hence the very question of a superiority-inferiority conflict is resolved with this interdependence, complemented by the spirit of co-working and mutuality.

Why is it so important to work on this point?
Foreign invaders thoroughly researched and analyzed Hindu vulnerabilities and fault lines. In order to split Hindu society and maintain their power for a longer amount of time, they so utilized poisonous tactics. Their main strategy was to divide Hindus along caste lines, which they were successful in doing, so that Hindus would begin to hate one another. As a great nation, we have endured a great deal of social, economic, and spiritual suffering. We continue to suffer as a society and as a nation because of this mindset. According to Angus Maddison’s book, the largest economy in terms of GDP prior to the British invasion was devastated during British rule, and the GDP was less than 3% after they left Bharat.
The British have taken advantage of weaker Hindus because of the caste divide by stealing gold and other natural resources, farm products, and forest wealth that our Adivasi brothers and sisters have created over the years. They have also converted many Hindus and destroyed the social fabric. Islamic extremists have also used the Hindu divide to attack Hindus violently in many locations, and many Christian pastors have used and continue to use it to convert Hindus and poison their minds against our wonderful nation and culture. Deep state global market forces continue to split Hindus along caste lines by employing these strategies with internal enemies. When it comes to the Hindu community, caste prejudice should be removed since Hindu society is so split by caste that a large gap has been established. Caste discrimination creates a sense of noncooperation in society, resulting in class conflicts, which ultimately to devastation. There is no doubt that Bharat is designated as a Hindu majority nation, which is a source of pride for all Hindus around the world. External and internal foes are currently exploiting Hindus’ weaknesses to carry out destructive acts. Due to Hindus’ weakness, the population statistics of other communities in Bharat are constantly increasing, which may eventually lead to Bharat’s dissolution. The caste-based division is indirectly accountable for most of this, and it must be eliminated before Bharat can move forward in terms of its overall leadership and development.
In Bharat, caste is a universal component. Hindus make up the majority and only by dividing people into castes or encouraging casteism can political power be gained or religious conversions be made. Christians and Muslims also have castes, with distinctions between high, low, and pure-impure castes - the worst kind of discrimination. However Deep state global business forces and numerous political parties believe it is beneficial to keep Hindus divided. We must be united and have a strong sense of belonging if we truly hope to see our nation grow and become “Vishwaguru” by 2047.
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s battle against caste prejudice aimed to bring Hindus together
Babasaheb was not anti-Hindu, but he was opposed to certain malpractices and few unfair customs of Hindu dharm. If he hated Hindu dharm, he would have changed to Islam or Christianity to further undermine Hindu dharm. However, he adopted Buddhism since its beliefs are very similar to those of Hindu dharm.
Many detractors of Hindu dharm mention a few of his lines against Hindu dharm, but we must remember that those were reactions at the time, and reactions are fleeting emotions that cannot determine anyone’s character or thought process. The majority of the reactions were out of anger against some practices, thus it makes little sense to claim that he was anti-Hindu. When we use harsh words for our family members, we do so out of love in order to effect constructive change, much as Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar did. His fame and power at the time could have allowed him to cause significant harm to Hindus and Bharat, however he was a patriot and was aware of the facts. Can we imagine the ramifications if he accepted the Christianity or Islam?
He was aware that every religion and ideology carried flaws that needed to be addressed and fixed. He was hopeful that Hindus would take steps to eliminate societal inequality, therefore he established a timeframe for Hindu leaders to take corrective action. However, the strong caste division among Hindus, as well as the slavery mentality fostered throughout time by Mughals and Britishers, made it impossible for Hindus to overcome this issue of societal inequality. Doctor Ambedkar realized that the hurdles erected by the Congress and Communist parties were also contributing to Hindu decline.
See what the third Sarsanghchalak, Balasaheb Deoras ji, stated about untouchability
If the caste system and untouchability are to be abolished, change must be brought about among those who believe in it. Instead of attacking or battling such people, there may be another option. I was fortunate to work with Dr. Hedgewar, the Sangh’s founder. He used to assert, “We don’t have to believe in or follow untouchability.” On this basis, he also developed Sangh Shakhas, a number of courses and programs. There were also those who held different views back then. However, Doctor ji was sure that they would undoubtedly concur with his ideas tomorrow, if not today. As a result, he didn’t raise a fuss about it, get into a fight with someone, or take any negative action against someone for disobedience. Because he had no doubt that the other person had the best of intentions as well. Because of certain habits, he might be hesitant at first, but given enough time, he will undoubtedly learn from his mistakes.
In the early days, in a Sangh camp, some brothers expressed hesitation in eating with SC community brothers. Doctor ji did not tell them the rules or expel them from the camp. All other volunteers, Doctor ji and I sat together for the meal.
Those who were hesitant, sat separately. But later, during the second meal, the same brothers himself came and sat with all of us. – Late Bala Saheb Deoras Ji, Pune Vasant Lecture Series (1974)
When Mahatma Gandhi and later Doctor Babasaheb Ambedkar visited RSS camps, they were satisfied that in the RSS, castes or details of social background are neither asked nor given any importance. During the birth centenary of Ambedkar some 23 years earlier, many in the RSS ensured that a portrait of Ambedkar adorned their homes. Many, like Girish Prabhune of Pune, have been untiringly working for the upliftment of the Paradhis and similar denotified, nomadic tribal communities.
How does the Sangh and its affiliated organizations and institutes seek to benefit marginalized groups in society?
A few decades back RSS Sar Sangh Chalak Pujya Shri Guruji inspired a renowned freedom fighter Shri Rama Kant (Bala Saheb) Deshpande to start the Kalyan Ashram for the service and economic development of tribal society. Today that seed has grown into a mass movement. Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram has built up its presence in almost every nook and corner of tribal Bharat serving through hospitals, schools, hostels, balwadis, adult education centers and various other humanitarian activities. From Andamans to Leh and from Arunachal to Nilgiri hills, there is a wide network of dedicated workers, men and women alike, who have silently brought about deep changes in the lives of the tribals.
Ironically, while certain colonial ‘scholars’ and anthropologists continued to label various tribes as ‘criminal tribes’, ‘head hunters’, and so on, aggressive proselytizers contemptuously referred to them as heathens and pagans, posing themselves as the sole emancipators of their ‘sinful’ souls.
However, RSS and other allied organizations demonstrated the true history of tribals and how they supported Prabhu Ram and Krishna. Their war against the British rule and injustice. Every year, tribal freedom fighters are recalled and honored with reverence. Society must clearly perceive that colonials and communists have always despised and degraded tribals, whereas the Sangh and its affiliates have always treated them as brothers and sisters.
Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram promotes the well-being of Janjatis (Adivasis) through a range of humanitarian activities throughout Bharat. Out of 397 tribal districts, 338 have various initiatives to help indigenous people. Work is being done in 52323 villages to enhance people’s lives, with more villages to be included in the future.
Aside from economic activities, local culture is encouraged and promoted. The goal of Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram is to work for the complete development of each tribal brother and sister. In addition, other sports facilities are being built in various locations.
Sewa Bharti
Rashtriya Sewa Bharati, a social service organization inspired by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), manages over 35,000 projects aimed at improving healthcare, education, and employability for the underprivileged in urban slums, remote areas, and tribal communities. The organization was founded in 1989 after Balasaheb Deoras, the third RSS Sarsanghchalak, called a meeting in Delhi in 1979 to establish an organization that would solely work with the poor and vulnerable in the areas of healthcare and education. In order to restore the nation’s greatness, let us bring Hindus together by eliminating caste discrimination.
